Clean the house, clear the counters, mop the floors, wash the windows, vacuum the rug, pick up the magazines, don’t use the towels, make the bed, hang up the clothes, polish the sink, hide the toaster, fluff the pillows, stash the bills …
HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO LIVE LIKE THIS?!
As a professional home stager who also has her house on the market, believe me, I FEEL YOUR PAIN! The current market conditions have extended the length of time it takes for properties to sell, and it is really, really difficult to make sure the house is in show condition day in and day out. If you have children, the challenge is amplified.
So what do you do?
First of all, consult with a professional home stager. Initial consultations with A1A Home Staging are always free and you are sure to end up with some helpful advice even if you decide not to arrange for any further services.
A home stager will help you see your home through a “buyer’s eyes” which are often distracted from the property by the home owners’ personal belongings. The most important first step in staging your home for sale is removing clutter and unnecessary furniture and decorating pieces. An uncluttered home is much easier to keep neat and clean for that surprise showing.
Don’t just stop at removing the items you can see. You also need to box up or toss out items in closets, cabinets, etc., that contribute to that “messy” look and take up valuable space for stashing things you cannot live without.
As an example, my teenage daughter doesn’t understand why her makeup, hair straightener, jewelry and accessories cannot be left all over her bathroom counter when she leaves for school every morning (she also doesn’t see the point in making her bed, but that is another story). A plastic bin that holds all of these items is an easy solution. Throw everything in the bin, stash it under the bathroom sink, and voila! neatness restored.
Home stagers have plenty of tips to help you hang in there while waiting for your sale. Give us a call so we can work out a plan that works for you.
